Kindergarten
Language Arts- Our song for the week was "Spiders All Over Me".  The students are doing a great job when it comes to locating their popcorn words within the various songs we sing.  We learned about the letter u and l.  We followed directions to make an umbrella and a lion.  We are focusing on words that rhyme.  At home you can read some rhyming book (Dr. Seuss is known for this) and have your child pick out or predict the words that rhyme.
Fine Motor- We worked on the letters B and R.  They are both "frog jump" letters.
Math- We made spiders to hang in our classroom, but first practice our positional vocabulary with them.  Making them move over, under, above, below, behind...We made patterns while working the 2-D shapes that the students need to know: square, circle, rectangle, triangle and hexagon.  We made AB, AAB, ABB and ABC patterns with cubes.  We also learned about patterns that grow.

RTI- 1st grade reading tier 3
We read the stories, "Ant Can't", "Eggs", and "Where Things Grow".  We completed our alphabet linking chart.  We worked on syllables, rhyming and beginning sounds.

RTI
Last week we worked on rhyming words.  We begin talking about syllables and finding words with 1,2, or 3 syllables in them.  We read the stories, "Sam and Papa" and "Too Much Stuff".  We added many sight words to our word bags.  These will come home occasionally in our homework folders for some fun extra practice.  Make sure to return the red folder and red book pocket daily!!

Kindergarten
Language Arts  On Monday the students took home their September songs.  I hope you enjoyed sharing those with your child.  Our song for this week was, October.  We worked on the letter/sound for M and D.  We made a mouse from an M and we also make dogs.  Our popcorn word for this week was "big".
Fine Motor  We learned a song that reminds us to start our letters "at the top".  We practiced making uppercase F's, E's, D's and P's.  These letters are all considered "frog jump" letters because you begin at the top, go straight down and then frog jump back to the top to complete the letter.
Math We have been focusing our attention to positional words.  Practice using these words with your child at home.  over, above, under, below, between, beside, next to, in front of & behind.

RTI- 1st grade tier 3 reading
We started our LLI (leveled literacy intervention) program this week.  The students will be bringing home a red folder and a book pocket daily, please check the homework and return the next day.
This week we read a variety of poems and highlighted the rhyming words in them.  We began building an ABC linking chart to review all letters/sounds.  We read the stories, "Waking Up", "Frog Food" and "The New Puppy".  As we read these books the students will bring them home to reread in their red book pockets.  Please take the take to enjoy listening to your child read these stories.  At times they will come home 2 days in a row.  It is great to reread books, it builds confidence and helps with fluency!!
